Hi, welcome to the Dynamic Duel Podcast, a weekly show where we review superhero films and debate the superiority between Marvel and DC by comparing their characters in stat-based battle simulations. I'm Johnny DC. And I'm his twin brother, Marvelous Joe. And this episode, it's going to be a fun episode, we are pitting in a duel match, MoGo, a Green Lantern, against Ego, the living planet, and the villain in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

00:49
I don't know how we're going to speculate on this battle between two planets, but luckily, at least to find out who would win, we rely on math and not our own speculation. So no matter how this goes, we're at least going to give you an honest answer as to who the winner would be. Although even then, the stats are going to be really weird to figure out. Yeah, which planet has the best fighting skills? Right? No idea. MoGo does. OK. But that's later on. Before that, we're going to break down the comic book movie news from the past week.

01:17
of which there was a ton of news. Not only did we get the Blue Beetle official final trailer, we also got casting announcements for Green Lantern, Mr. Terrific, Hawk Girl, and Metamorpho in Superman Legacy. And I guess Hugh Jackman wore some yellow suit so people got excited as well. But compared to everything else, it was the best compared to everything else. You're right, correct.

01:42
As always we list our segment times in our episode description, so feel free to check out the show notes if you want to skip ahead to a particular topic. Our duel simulator is so advanced guys that it's gained sentience and has named itself the Artificial Lifeform for Running Extensive Duels, just a rather very intelligent Simulator 9000, or Alfred Jarvis 9000. He has a quick message for our listeners, so listen up!

02:06

And the Dynamike Network has a new show coming the first week of August called Senjou World. Senjou is the Japanese word for battlefield, and in it, host Zachary Hepburn, an executive producer of this show.

03:52

Yeah, click on the link in our show notes or visit dynamicpodcast.com to check out all the shows in the network. But with that out of the way, quick to the no prize.

04:15
A No Prize is an award Marvel used to give out to fans. Our version, the Dynamic duel No Prize, is a digital award we post on Instagram and in our email newsletter for the person that we feel gave the best answer to our question of the week. Last week we asked, what other Fox Marvel character do you most want to see make an appearance in Deadpool 3? And of course this was coming off the news that Jennifer Gardner would be making an appearance in the Deadpool sequel. We got four answers! So we're going to break down the three honorable mentions before

04:44
revealing this week's no prize winner. Our first honorable mention goes to Harrison Fox, who said. Hey guys, Harrison Fox here. The character I'd like to see make an appearance is Peter Maximoff from the X-Men movies. And that would be just so Deadpool could cut his head off as revenge for the boner joke we got at the end of the One Division. Yeah, that would be fantastic to see Deadpool get really meta and like break the fourth wall and call Quicksilver out for.

05:13
the horrible joke that was in WandaVision, just be like, the fans didn't appreciate it, whap! You know, we are speculating that the Deadpool 3 movie is going to be similar to the Deadpool kills the Marvel universe concept, which was a limited series in the comic books, but instead of the comic book universe, it's gonna be the 20th century Fox universe. That's what we're guessing. That may not be the case, but that's the whole basis of this question. Yeah, I mean, Evan Peters is a part of the Fox X-Men universe.

05:43
So I wouldn't be surprised if he actually made an appearance in Deadpool 3. And if he does a boner joke is a must. He did make a small cameo in Deadpool 2. So very likely. Great answer Harrison Fox. Our next honorable mention goes to Colby Hentges who said, hey boys Colby Hentges. The obvious character who needs to make an appearance in Deadpool 3 is Chris Evans, Johnny Storm, his appearance in Free Guy also directed by Sean Levy.

06:12
made me laugh, I'd like to see him in Deadpool 3. This is a great answer, I would love to see this. Chris Evans made a brief cameo in Free Guy when Ryan Reynolds' character lifted up the Captain America shield and Chris Evans was like, what the fuck? But it would be really interesting to see Chris Evans revisit the role of Johnny Storm, the Human Torch that he played in those early Fantastic Four movies, just to kind of bring it full circle from Fox Universe to...

06:41
the MCU where he played of course Steve Rogers, Captain America and that whole dichotomy between the two characters I think would be fun to comment on by the character of Deadpool. Yeah, absolutely for sure. I also want to see the rest of the original fantastic forecast Jessica Elba, Yuan Griffith, Michael Chiklis. That would be fantastic. Literally. Our final honorable mention goes to Christopher Minotti who said, Hi guys, Christopher Minotti. I would most want to see Nightcrawler.

07:09
Now, I know that Nightcrawler is not a usual pair up with Deadpool. However, I think honestly, I just think that he should be in more and more things in general. I don't think he's in enough. And unpopular opinion, I think Wolverine is in too much. I'm a little tired of him and I'm a little tired of him showing up in everything. And I got to say, I'm a little bit tired of your trash opinion there, Christopher. Just kidding. It's not a trash opinion.

07:39
Put us wrong, I could never have enough Wolverine, obviously. Yeah, I mean, I kind of wanted to hate this answer until I remembered how cool Nightcrawler is in the X-Men Fox movies, starting with X-Men 2. Oh yeah, Alan Cumming did a great job portraying Kurt Wagner in X-2. He really made that movie and it was such a shame that we never got to see Nightcrawler again within that original universe. Of course, maybe Christopher Minotti is not talking about Alan Cumming and maybe he's talking about Cody Smith McPhee who played the character.

08:07
in X-Men Apocalypse and X-Men Dark Phoenix. That would also be great, because I thought he was also pretty good in the role. But you know, this is a great answer just because of the cool factor. Nightcrawler is really cool. If he was in every movie, that would be fantastic. Like literally, not even just Marvel movies. If he was just in every movie, it would be awesome. Yeah, great answer, Christopher. But the winner of this week's No Prize is John Spees from the Blast From Our Past podcast, who said. Hey guys, John from the Blast From Our Past here.

08:36
I don't actually know if this is 20th Century Fox, but you know who I'd love to see be killed off by Deadpool? The Hoff playing Nick Fury from his late 90s TV movie, Nick Fury, Agent of the Shield. I think it would be absolutely hilarious just for him to make a quick cameo just to get killed. Initially, I wasn't gonna allow this as an answer, but then we looked it up and the Nick Fury, Agent of Shield made for television TV movie was in fact

09:05
produced by 20th century television. So it's now in my headcanon that David Hasselhoff was Nick Fury for the Fox X-Men universe. And holy cow, how perfect would it be if he was in Deadpool 3? David Hasselhoff is such a character in real life that he is ripe for the satiric world of Deadpool. Absolutely, yeah. It would be so amazing to see Deadpool comment on David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury

09:35
but also to see Deadpool slice into David Hasselhoff as a gag. David Hasselhoff did make a brief cameo appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. So we know that he's totally game for this kind of stuff. The main reason I wanted to choose this as the no prize win though, was because I would love it if David Hasselhoff would do like a music video song tie-in for the movie, like he did for True Survivor and Kung Fury. That was great. That was, you know, Celine Dion did a song for Deadpool 2.

10:04
I bet you they could totally convince David Hasselhoff to do a song for Deadpool 3. I'm actually going to be pissed if this doesn't happen. Such the perfect answer. Way to go, John Speas. Totally didn't even consider it. It came out of left field, but it ended up being just everything you would ever want for an answer for this week. Everyone needs to add Ryan Reynolds just like hashtag Hassel the Hoff and let him know that we want to see him in the movie. Congrats to John Speas for winning this week's No Prize. Be sure to check out his podcast, The Blast from Our Past podcast.

10:31
Both John and Adam are good friends of this show and they put out an amazing podcast. If you the listener want a shot at winning your own no prize, stay tuned till later on this episode when we'll be asking another Question of the Week. And now that that's done, on to the news!

10:50
Okay, so last week Warner Brothers unveiled the official final trailer for Blue Beetle, which comes out in theaters next month. I'm super excited for this movie. I was way excited even before this trailer came out, but this trailer gets me the most excited, which it's supposed to do. It's kind of a long trailer. Like if it was half this length, I totally would have been fine. When it first came out, you mentioned that the trailer probably showed too much. I didn't agree with you at first, but the more I watch it...

11:19
the more I kind of wish I would have seen certain things in the theater on screen. Absolutely, yeah. I mean, I think a trailer has an issue when it presents a full three act structure. It gives us a clear idea of what's going on in the beginning where he acquires the scarab in the middle when he's getting used to using it. And at the end, when he's forced to use it to protect his family. We see a lot of that final battle. We even get...

11:44
basically what his arc is gonna be, where the bad guy tells him, you know, like your family makes you weak, and he's like, no, my family makes me strong. That's essentially his arc, and throwing that in the trailer, I think, is kind of giving away what you're going to the movie to see, especially because I don't think the Blue Beetle movie has the most massive budget, and considering how many special effects shots we got within this trailer, I think we're gonna see that this trailer gave away a lot. It could be, we'll see. I'm sure there's a lot more special effects scenes in the movie.

12:14
already just from this trailer, the special effects are better than what we're in the entirety of the flash. So that's promising. That's true. But yeah, the trailer definitely has like three different sections. The first section, it's really all about Jaime's conflict with controlling the scarab, you know, and sort of learning everything that it can do. You know, he's jumping off of roofs. He's like flying through the sky haphazardly. And the second section is where we meet the main villain of the movie, or at least the main bad guy that he's going to fight against.

12:43
Carapace who sort of like a red version of Blue Beetle, you know, he has tech weapons and a suit of armor Looks pretty cool. Are you getting heavy Iron Man versus Iron Monger vibes from this? I am and I'm not surprised you are as well the scene where he's fighting Carapace looks a lot like the final battle in Iron Man, but I wouldn't be surprised if maybe that's like a mid movie battle It doesn't necessarily have to be the final battle the third section of the trailer Like you mentioned really is about Jaime

13:13
protecting his family with all the different things that the suit can do and all the different gear that he has at his disposal. I loved the final bit where, you know, the grandmother picks up that huge like Gatling energy gun and Jaime is like, Nana? And she's just like firing at all of the soldiers. I laughed at that. The whole trailer was fun in general though. Wouldn't you have rather seen that tag at the end in theaters though? Like why did they need to give away that Nana uses like core tech to fight?

13:42
Okay dude, I get it. You hate the whole thing because you didn't wanna see any of it. We have seen it though, so let's talk about what we've seen, right? I just speak from experience because I saw the Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer, you know, way back in the day when that was out, and I resented them so much after I saw the actual movie for how much they put in the trailer. They put all the best shots. I really think that's what they did here. And it, honestly, if this is the best stuff that the movie has to offer, I'm not.

14:10
Entirely convinced that this movie is going to do that well at the box office You're very very convinced that this trailer is showing the best that the movie has to offer Why don't you save your rage for when you actually watch the movie? Mark my words if you're a DC fan who's actually looking forward to seeing Blue Beetle I guarantee you you're gonna regret watching this trailer at the end of the day after the film comes out Are you willing to bet money on it whether I regret watching this trailer after I'm done watching the movie? Yeah, okay I'll bet you $50

14:40
50 doll hairs, all right.

14:43
I heard that. Don't you already owe me 50 bucks? What for what? I think it was like the Batman didn't gross as much as Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness. I don't remember that. You're making shit up. You better give me my fucking money. You better pay up, bro. I know where you live. Eh, you'll have to find proof evidence that I made that bet. We have a league of loyal Marvel listeners that'll go back and try to find where we made that bet on this show.

15:12
Well, I have fun doing it. Anyway, back to the trailer. Like I said, it was a lot of fun. May have spoiled a lot of things, but at the end of the day, that's not really my concern until I watch the actual movie to see how much it spoiled. I really am loving what I'm seeing so far. The film looks like it's going to have great action, great special effects, and really a heart to it, which is everything I ever wanted in a Blue Beetle movie starring Jaime Reyes. There's still a lot of mystery about certain things

15:42
Victoria Cord and Ted Cord and what roles they're going to play in the movie. So there's still a lot to be excited about when the movie drops August 18th. In other exciting DC news, we learned this past week that James Gunn, the director of Superman Legacy that will be starring David Cornswett as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, has also cast Isabella Merced as Hawk Girl, Eddie Gathe as Mr. Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner.

16:11
and Anthony Kerrigan as Metamorpho. Now, a couple of these characters we've seen in the CW series, like Hawkeye Girl in Legends of Tomorrow and Mr. Terrific in Arrow, but we've never seen them on the big screen before. This also marks the return of seeing a green lantern on the big screen, albeit it's Guy Garner this time instead of Hal Jordan. And Metamorpho was a huge surprise. Never thought I'd get to see him on screen because he's such an obscure character.

16:39
And it's really exciting and really intriguing to see Superman Legacy sort of take shape with its cast. I don't know, man. I thought it was like a bunch of B-listers. Oh my fucking gosh. You basically have like Dora the Explorer and the guy who Kevin Bacon killed in X-Men First Class, the detachable kid playing the worst green lantern, and some guy I never heard of playing Metamorpho. Let's not pretend like Mr. Terrific and Metamorpho are these big characters.

17:07
I think they were cast appropriately. C-list actors for C-list characters. So you admit it? Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with you that the characters and actors are relatively obscure. That's not the point. The point is that these characters are going to be seen in this movie at all. You know, it sort of looks like, for my guess, that James Gunn is establishing a Justice League in the Superman movie. That's interesting though, considering that Superman Legacy is not only the introductory movie to the DCU.

17:36
but it's also primarily a Superman movie. I mean, we know that this isn't going to be an origin film. We're going to have an established Superman in this movie, although he will be, as Clark Kent, going to the city of Metropolis for the first time. I think it's pretty interesting that heroes already exist in this world, and I think it's gonna be interesting to see how Superman compares to the rest of them. In order to show Superman as this inspiring figure in the superhero community and the world,

18:05
you actually need to show that superhero community. You know, James Gunn has gotten a little bit of flak online for introducing all of these characters in a Superman movie, to which he basically responded, there's two different worlds that the character of Superman exists in. You know, there's his daily planet cast with Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane, but there's also, you know, the larger superhero community, and he couldn't tell an effective Superman story without showing both sides of that. I thought that was the perfect answer.

18:33
Man, don't you hate internet nerds who just have to gripe about everything before they've seen it, just assuming the worst? Yeah, the worst of them is called Marvelous Joe.

18:43
I hate that guy. When I first heard this news, it totally threw me for the loop, but in like the best possible way, because I thought this movie was going to be Superman versus the Authority, because, you know, it had been mentioned in the trades that the Authority film was spinning out of the Superman movie. But it looks like the Authority is maybe, you know, taking a back seat for another film down the line. And that really we're going to be seeing the Justice League characters in this movie, or at least some of them characters that we've never seen before. It's going to be so cool.

19:13
I really like the idea of Justice League characters being in this movie as opposed to the Authority because I feel like more people are familiar with Justice League characters, having grown up with the cartoons and stuff. I don't mind James Gunn pushing the Authority down the road. I think in the end, the most exciting thing that this signifies for DC fans is that DC movies aren't really going to lose any steam as far as rebuilding a universe. James Gunn is already introducing so many characters within his first film.

19:42
as some previous DCEU franchises have introduced, you know, within multiple movies. It seems like people who are interested in keeping things churning regarding movies with DC characters won't have to feel like they're starting over from scratch. Yeah, it definitely looks like he's going out the gate universe building. This isn't just going to be a hyper focused Superman movie in the same way that the Batman was hyper focused on Batman and his cast of characters in Gotham City. No, this is really going to introduce us to this new world.

20:12
of DC. But now that we have this cast of characters, I'm confused even more now than ever as to who the villain of the movie is. Maybe it's Lex Luthor? I have no idea. I was surprised we didn't get his casting along with everyone else. But speaking of Lex Luthor, that brings us to our question of the week.

20:35
Who would you cast as Lex Luthor in Superman Legacy, and why?

21:02
Yeah, and of course with the actor strike that recently began, we probably won't learn who will be cast as Lex Luthor for a while. But the movie won't be coming out in a while regardless. It doesn't come out until July 11th, 2025. So almost two years from now. But I'm really curious to hear who you guys will think will play Lex Luthor because I think he's going to be a major character in the movie. And actually good news. This past week, we got some set photos from Deadpool 3 is filming where we got to see

21:30
Fucking Hugh Jackman in his Wolverine costume. Finally, no more black spandex, none of that weird shit. He's finally wearing the yellow with the black stripes and the blue gloves and it is glorious. And I love everything about it. I was just so happy when this photo got released. Of course, Ryan Reynolds released it on his socials, probably because he knew that there were going to be leaked set photos during filming and he got ahead of it. Wolverine suit looks pretty much exactly like how you would want it to if it existed within the MCU.

22:00
Except the sleeves. Right, yeah, the costume has sleeves here, which is not uncommon for a Wolverine costume. You know, you look at suits like his ablation armor or things like that, he had sleeves on those suits. So I don't mind the sleeves. I think he gives it a complete look. It looks really good next to Deadpool suit, that's for sure. They look a little bit similar. They look like they, you know, belonged on the same team at the very least. They look like they went to the same tailor, just like all the Marvel characters look like they went to the same tailor, you know, but.

22:28
That's kind of what I like about the Marvel suits in general and these suits here is that there's kind of a consistency to them that makes everything feel very cohesive. My favorite part of the outfit are the little claw sockets, I don't know if that's what you would call them, that are on his gloves. They look straight out of, you know, the comics and the 90s cartoon. It's really cool to see when he actually unsheathes the claws. We got to see some action shots of Wolverine and Deadpool fighting with some classic Wolverine poses in the mix.

22:58
such a dream come true to see Hugh Jackman finally looking like Wolverine as we know him from the comics doing these poses. If you told me 23 years ago that I would finally get to see the yellow spandex I'd probably get pissed that it took 23 years but I would be glad nonetheless. Honestly I wasn't as excited about the suit as I thought I would be because I was looking forward to seeing it but I think it was just something about the sleeves and maybe it's the mask maybe it's because it's missing the mask.

23:25
I'm not as excited as about it as I feel like I should be. I'm really curious to see if they're going to go with the mask that was like in the deleted scene for the Wolverine, because that was a badass mask. And I'm hoping that the actual mask that they go with is as badass as that. What actually got me most excited for all of this set footage that we saw was the 20th Century Studios logo, like in the background. Isn't that crazy? That is insane that they like actually built that and it's like destroyed.

23:54
and it really lends credibility to the whole notion that this film is going to be Deadpool kills the Fox universe. Yeah, I cannot wait for this movie. I know production has been paused now due to the multiple strikes going on. That really sucks. Freaking studio heads need to get their heads out of their assholes and just freaking get things running again. Because this film needs to make its release date. I will be so disappointed if it gets pushed back. Yeah, we're looking at you, Bob Iger. We're looking at you.

24:23
You too, David Zezlov, you're on notice. Even more so. I mean, I wouldn't go that far. Ha ha ha.

24:36
But I think that does it for all of the news for this episode. Now let's move on to the main event where we pit the planet characters, Mogu, the green lantern, against Ego, the living planet.

25:02
Okay, Mogo, the Green Lantern versus Ego, the Living Planet. As we mentioned earlier, these characters are both straight up planets, which makes them perfect to go up against each other. This match was chosen by our executive producers, and it's one that we've had in the wings for a while. And it's exciting for it to finally come to fruition. I am so nervous about how the speculation is going to go, because I don't know how to roleplay a planet. I have no idea how it's going to go, although, you know.

25:30
The character of Ego is fairly fascinating. I think they did a really good job adapting him to the big screen with Kurt Russell's version in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Yeah, Mogo hasn't been on screen in theaters. I don't think he was in the Green Lantern movie from what I remember, but he did play a big role in the animated film Green Lantern Emerald Nights, which retold the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbon story that introduced Mogo in the comics. We'll tell you all about the characters and the character breakdowns.

But to explain the methodology behind our duels, let's go to our sentient duel simulator, Alfred Jarvis 9000. AJ9K, tell our listeners how you go about determining a winner in our duel matchups. Yes, of course, sir. The way I determine a winner between the contestants is by running 1000 Monte Carlo simulations using the characters statistics. A Monte Carlo simulation is a probabilistic model used to determine outcomes through random sampling. In this case,

26:28
I randomize the statistics along a normal distribution as a way to simulate the many variables that can occur during battle. The stat parameters are based on the official Marvel power grid from which the DC characters' statistics are extrapolated. Additional stat categories are included such as range, damage potential, versatility and perception in order to create a more detailed and accurate simulation. The results of the 1000 simulations provide a percentage of wins for each character.

26:55
Contestant with the higher percentage is declared the victor as they have a higher probability to win any given battle. In an equitable pairing, neither character should win 100% of the matches. The comic book stories have shown that there's even a way for Batman to defeat Superman, so the confidence rate of my method falls in line with the precedents that have been established in the source material. My mathematical simulations are without subjectivity or bias. Feats are not the sole consideration, nor are fan votes tabulated for determination of the winner.

27:26
Thanks AJ9K! Before we run the simulations though, we like to break down each character's histories and abilities before improvising a scenario on how we imagine one of the 1000 simulations would play out beat for beat. And I believe it's my turn to go first with the DC character's backstory, so let me tell you about... MOGO. Now, MOGO is a member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic peacekeeping force whose members possess powerful rings capable of turning willpower and imagination

27:56
into reality. The story of Mogo was a popular one told to new recruits of the Green Lantern Corps, who upon inquiring about the mysterious and legendary Green Lantern Protector of Universe Sector 2261, were told that Mogo doesn't socialize. Recruits were then told the story of Bulfanga the Unrelenting, an alien hunter and duelist who had defeated some of the most fearsome warriors across the universe.

28:24
When told of the might and location of Mogu, Bulfunga traveled to meet the mysterious Green Lantern, landing upon a dense forest planet and boasting loudly how Mogu would meet his demise once found. After spending years ripping through vegetation in search of Mogu, inspecting every insect and animal for a Green Lantern ring, yet finding no intelligent life. It wasn't until one day when Bulfunga was arranging maps that he had drawn out.

28:54
that the truth of Mogo dawned on him. Bulfanga jumped into a spaceship and rocketed into space, only to look back and see what he had missed before. Around the circumference of the planet's surface was a band of green foliage and a symbol that made the shape of a Green Lantern ring. Mogo, Bulfanga realized, was the planet. Despite being one of the Green Lantern Corps' oldest members, little else is known about Mogo's history.

29:24
or acquired a Green Lantern Ring, as its massive gravity largely prevents it from visiting other Green Lanterns planets. When visited by other Green Lanterns or intelligent lifeforms, MoGo occasionally communicated telepathically thanks to its innate powerful psychic energy, which acts as the source for allowing Green Lantern Rings to find worthy and courageous successors when a Green Lantern dies. As one of the core's most powerful Green Lanterns, MoGo kept peace in Sector 2261,

29:54
until the primary Green Lantern from Earth, Hal Jordan, went insane and destroyed the Green Lantern's central power battery on the planet Oa, which was responsible for empowering the rings of the Green Lantern core across the universe. You can learn more about Hal Jordan in our Green Lantern vs Nova duel episode. Having depended too long on the energy from its Green Lantern ring for sustenance, MOGO began traveling to Sector-1014 to seek the aid of the fellow Green Lantern ship.

30:24
who you can learn more about in our Chip vs Rocket Raccoon episode. Drained of power en route, however, MOGO became comatose, drifting aimlessly toward Sector 101-4 until Hal Jordan's successor, the Green Lantern Kyle Raynor, was able to reignite the central power battery on Oa and recreate the Owen Race, an ancient species who created the Green Lantern core and central power battery. When the Owens realized there was an uncharted planet in 101-4,

30:53
They sent Kyle Rayner to investigate, not realizing it was the comatose, MoGo. When Kyle arrived, he learned an alien species had taken residence upon the planet, but were being attacked by rock monsters coming from underground. When Kyle realized the planet was MoGo and reawakened it, MoGo explained what had happened and that the rock monsters were a type of natural reaction from the planet's immune system. After the frightened aliens left the planet,

31:22
MOGO rejoined the Green Lantern Corps, serving as a training ground and retreat for Corps members. During the Rand Thanagar Space War, MOGO requested backup from fellow Green Lanterns after its planet got caught in the crossfire. Afterward, during the rise of the Sinestro Corps and their army of fear-powered Yellow Ring-Bears, a Yellow Lantern named Despotilus, which was a microscopic sentient bio-virus, infected MOGO.

31:49
causing it to grow mushroom spores. Unaware of Mogo's infection, the Green Lanterns on its surface began going insane from the spores, though a Green Lantern of Earth, Guy Gardner, was able to rid Mogo of the virus with the help of several other Green Lanterns. When Superboy Prime attempted to destroy the universe during the Infinite Crisis, he was met with the full might of the Green Lantern Corps, and the final battle took place on Mogo's surface. During the Sinestro Corps War,

32:18
the Sinestro Corps targeted Mogu for destruction in order to prevent Green Lantern Rings from locating new owners. To contend with a being as immense as Mogu, who, according to the leader of the Red Lanterns, was prophesied to be the last Green Lantern, the Sinestro Corps recruited a sentient city named Ranks to drill into Mogu and allow them to place a blink bomb that would destroy the planet. With the help of Killawog, who you can learn more about in our Killawog vs Beta Ray Bill episode,

32:47
Mogo was able to stop the Sinistro Corps' plan. During the Blackest Night event, when the dead rose throughout the universe as regenerative zombie black lanterns, Mogo traveled to Oa in order to stop the black lantern assault that arose from Oa's massive Green Lantern Cemetery. Increasing his gravity, Mogo was able to pull the black lanterns off of Oa's surface and into his molten core, where the black lanterns were continually destroyed.

33:16
and unable to regenerate. After helping Guy Gardner successfully purge himself of a red lantern ring, Mogo was corrupted by the evil Owen known as Krona, who was able to do so by tainting the central power battery. Taking advantage of Mogo's immense psychic powers, Krona was able to corrupt thousands of new recruits across the universe. Kyle Rayner and Jon Stewart, then bearing blue and indigo rings respectively, uncovered what was going on.

33:44
and Jon Stewart was forced to use his indigo ring to channel the black lantern energy which still resided in mogo's core to kill mogo and stop corona's influence. To honor mogo, the green lantern core cremated the planet in oa's sun, causing it to form a green lantern ring band around it, much like mogo's. In post flashpoint continuity, it was revealed that, eons ago, mogo was originally part of a solar system

34:12
with many other sentient planets. When its sibling planets decided to nurture intelligent life, MoGo opposed the idea and witnessed as each of them were destroyed when the intelligent life inevitably consumed the planet's resources and killed it. When its last sibling, Raga, realized its intelligent life was going to kill the planet as well, MoGo, who by this point had become a Green Lantern, was forced to kill Raga,

34:39
as it committed genocide and used weather to kill its inhabitants. After Mogo's death, the Green Lantern John Stewart, who you can learn more about in our Green Lantern vs. Quasar episode, noticed that Mogo's remnants began drifting toward an unknown sector, attempting to reform. Asked by the Owens to investigate and protect the reforming Mogo, John later discovered that the Owens planned on destroying the Green Lantern Corps and replacing it with an army devoid of emotion.

35:09
he and Jon thwarted the Owens' plan, with Mogu eventually becoming the homeworld of the Green Lantern Corps, which no longer answered to the Owens, whose world had also been destroyed. Recently in the comics, however, Owa has been rebuilt and Mogu has returned as a member of the Corps. Powers-wise, Mogu is a sentient planet roughly the size of Earth. Wielding a Green Lantern Power Ring, Mogu is able to generate physical constructs of

35:38
no other Green Lantern can muster, including planet-sized shields, massive lasers, and entire armies. He's also able to propel himself at vast speeds through space with green energy. In addition to his ring, Mogo is also a powerful psychic, capable of mentally scanning beings across the universe and projecting mental illusions in the minds of those on its surface. Mogo can also control its weather, ground surface, and vegetation,

36:07
and can even focus its own gravity. It does possess minimal animal life on its surface, including space dolphins and insects, but Mogu can also generate soldiers from the elements that make up the planet, including the ground and trees. And that's Mogu. I want to know when Mogu was first introduced in the comics. I think he came out in the mid 80s. He was created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, the same team behind Watchmen. Okay, so he's a big ripoff of Ego the Living Planet.

36:36
They have so much in common in regards to what they can do. Interesting. Moko is just a lesser version of Ego with a worse name that sounds like Moko. Yeah, but people who don't speak Spanish don't even know what that means, so. People know what Mokos are and Kaka and all that stuff. Moko means mucus, so now everybody knows. Let me go ahead and get into Ego's backstory. Millennia ago in the far reaches of space...

37:03
an enigmatic and inquisitive cosmic being known as the Stranger, experimented on a star, causing it to go supernova. The resulting explosion eradicated the star's solar system, including one of its inhabited planets. Just before the destruction of all life on his world, a scientist named Egros managed to seal himself within a protective bunker near the planet's core. He became the sole survivor of his entire solar system.

37:33
The Stranger then merged Egros, the last remaining soul, with the remains of the obliterated world, creating what would eventually become Ego, the living planet. The Stranger also merged the rest of the extinguished life with the surrounding proto-matter to form a primordial substance that would over time evolve into a quote, bio-verse, a living ecosystem on a celestial scale as big as a galaxy, but with Ego as the soul's sentient

38:03
Ego was extremely protective of his bioverse, a sector of space that became known as the Black Galaxy to aliens due to the number of ships that were lost while exploring it. Eventually, word of the Black Galaxy reached Thor, the Asgardian god of thunder who went to investigate. Upon landing on Ego the living planet, Thor was shocked to see that the world was alive. Ego, who can control his entire mass down to the molecular level,

38:30
manifested an army of quote, antibodies to fight Thor. Though the hero was overwhelmed and about to be swallowed whole by the planet, he summoned a mighty thunderstorm that stunned Ego's brain at his core long enough for Thor to escape the encounter. You can learn more about Thor in our Wonder Woman vs Thor duel episode. Shortly after, the world's devouring cosmic entity known as Galactus came across Ego and tried to consume him.

38:57
Ego defended himself by creating a shield of solid clouds. Galactus attacked by hurling comets at the planet's surface, prompting Ego to manifest tentacles to strangle the world devourer. Though they appeared to be at a stalemate, Ego drove off Galactus with the aid of Thor in exchange for accommodating a race of beings called the Wanderers, whose home planet had been destroyed by Galactus. At this time, one of the colonizers extracted a sample of Ego.

39:26
in an attempt to use it to terraform new worlds. This extraction drove the living planet into a rage and he devoured the entire race of wanderers that were now living on him. Galactus, eager for revenge and realizing that Ego had gone mad, constructed a thruster that he anchored to the planet's surface and sent Ego hurtling through the universe. You can learn more about Galactus in our Spectre vs Galactus duel.

39:55
and used it to propel himself toward Earth. His arrival in our solar system caused a rise in seismic activity on Earth, and the heroic adventurers, the Fantastic Four, were forced to go out into space to confront him. While Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, and the Human Torch distracted the living planet, the Thing removed the engine from Ego's thruster. This caused Ego to lose control and be pulled into the sun's gravitational pull, from which he cannot escape. Crashing into the sun,

40:24
Ego disintegrated. Over the course of about half a decade, Ego's surviving consciousness used photosynthetic energy from the sun to pull himself back together from gaseous particles into a solid planet again, including his thruster, which he used to flee the solar system. In an attempt to regain his former strength, Ego posed as an idyllic paradise planet and consumed all visitors and would-be colonizers. This murderous routine was stopped by Rom the Space Knight.

40:54
who threatened to neutralize Ego's brain if he continued. Later, Ego joined the ranks of the Elders of the Universe, a group of ancient enigmatic beings who are among the last of their kind. The Elders specialize in various aspects of the universe and wield the Power Primordial, which is similar to Galactus' Power Cosmic. Members of the group include the Collector, the Grandmaster, the Champion, the Stranger, and Father Time, among others.

41:21
Redeeming Ego powerful and unique enough, the Elders recruited him as one of their own and used him as a base for their occasional gatherings. Ego later became embroiled in battles against cosmic heroes such as the Silver Surfer and Beta Ray Bill. Eventually the living planet's mind was overtaken by the supreme intelligence and artificial consciousness in charge of the Kree alien race. The Kree used Ego as a weapon against other planets.

41:48
before compressing his essence and incarcerating him on Earth. This was during a time when our planet was being used as a prison for intergalactic villains. You can learn more about that event in our Big Barda vs Ronan the Accuser duel episode. Although Ego began slowly infesting and taking over Earth, the hero Quasar stopped him by absorbing the living planet into the quantum zone where he drew his power. Quasar then exiled himself into space to prevent Ego from infecting Earth again.

42:18
After Quasar's apparent death during the extradimensional parasite Annihilus' invasion from the Negative Zone, Ego was released from the Quantum Zone. During this invasion, the home planet of the intergalactic Nova Core, Xandar, was destroyed. The Xandarian world mind lobotomized Ego to use him as Nova's new headquarters, renaming the planet New Xandar. Nova vehemently disagreed with this act, and was kicked out of the core for insubordination.

42:46
As it turned out though, Ego was the one who corrupted the Worldmind, deceiving Nova into thinking the living planet was the victim. Nova was then forced to lobotomize Ego for real in order to free the Zandarian Worldmind. Over time, Ego's mind healed, and his madness was revealed to be caused by a planetary cancerous growth that the Fantastic Four helped remove. With his mind restored to normal, Ego learned from his creator, the Stranger, that another planetary consciousness existed.

43:15
called Alter Ego. Eager to meet his brother, Ego traveled to the Collectors Museum where he was being held. However, Alter Ego was wrathful and immediately sought to kill Ego in order to retain his perceived uniqueness in the universe. Alter Ego crashed into and bit Ego, who responded by delivering a cosmic blast that shattered his brother to pieces. Though the living planet grieved, Thor's ally, a goddess named Zephyr,

43:44
resurrected the shattered alter-ego, who was reborn as a moon that now orbited his brother Ego. And that's his backstory. Powers-wise, Ego the living planet possesses vast cosmic powers comparable to those of Galactus. He can use these powers for a variety of effects, such as generating and emitting intense cosmic energy, radiation, or magnetic fields. Ego also has powerful psionic abilities, including telepathy and mind reading.

44:13
He has complete molecular control over his entire planetary mass, allowing him to control his own weather systems and seismic activity, reshape his appearance at will, grow large tendrils, travel the universe at near light speeds, and create non-sentient plant and animal life, including defensive creatures he calls antibodies that protect the planet. Similarly, Ego can manifest his sentient consciousness as a humanoid being,

44:40
for more direct communication with smaller scale life forms. Ego is also highly intelligent, being an elder of the universe, and his brain exists deep at his planetary core. Ego is about half the size of Earth, about the same size as Mars. Ha ha! But it's not about the size of the planet, it's about how you use the planet. I don't know what that means. Okay. Yeah, they do actually have a lot in common. I guess you could say MoGo is a ripoff.

45:10
DC is first to rip off of Marvel, so it's not even a big deal. It is a big deal, and you should be ashamed, along with every other DC fan out there, and Alan Moore himself. Yeah, I doubt he listens to the podcast, so... LAUGHS

45:28
Hey guys, Marvelous Joe here to wish everyone a happy summer season. You know, with warmer weather upon us, I like to go outside, go for walks or hikes, go to parks and dine out on patios, but all that time outdoors can get excruciatingly hot and staying hydrated is essential. Just ask Aquaman, he can attest to that. Thing is though, I'm notorious for not drinking enough water. I know it's an issue, but that's partially why I use Liquid IV, which is an electrolyte

45:58
that you add to water that hydrates you twice as fast. So if I'm out and about, I never get dehydrated, which is important if I'm, you know, at a concert, playing pickup volleyball, going to a brewery or coffee shop. I just pour some Liquid IV in my water and bam, I'm practically Neymar the Submariner. Think of Liquid IV like a sports drink, but with three times the electrolytes. And it's in powdered form, so you can add it to any drink. Their small packets are super convenient to carry around with you in your pocket, so you always have one on hand.

46:28
In addition to staying hydrated, I love using Liquid IV because it makes water taste better. Like to me, water is boring. So I flavor it up with lemon lime, pina colada, watermelon, or one of their other awesome flavors. And actually, they just came out with the strawberry lemonade, and I guarantee you, I'm picking that up right now. And you listeners can do the same at Liquid IV's website and buy it for less using this podcast's offer. Get 20% off when you go to liquidiv.com.

46:58
and use code duel, that's D-U-E-L, at checkout. That's 20% off anything you order when you shop better hydration today using promo code duel at liquidiv.com. You can also shop using the link that's in our show notes. This summer, stay on top of your hydration and do it for less with our promo code duel, sponsored by Liquid IV. Thanks friends, means a lot.

47:25
But now that we've got their histories and abilities out of the way, let's speculate on how one of the 1000 simulated matches will go. The winner is determined by simulations, not this speculation, but it's fun to imagine how this fight could play out. Alfred Jarvis9000, what are the rules of our speculation? Well, I should say there are no rules, other than the characters have no prior knowledge of the other going into the fight. All they are aware of starting out...

47:52
is that the other character is a threat that needs to be eliminated. For the speculation, the contestants will begin approximately 50 meters apart in a nondescript environment that will have no bearing on the match itself as no environmental statistics are considered in my simulations. The contestants must earn victory on their own merit. All right then, let's get into it. The Green Lantern, Mogo, and Ego, the Living Planet meet on the battlefield. Who goes first? Well, first I gotta say that like AJ-9000 is wrong.

48:22
thinking about it obviously these planets start out much further than 50 meters apart from each other that's true non-environment like it's got to be more like five million miles apart from each other right which I did the math and that's like a sixth of the distance between Earth and Mars so yeah five million miles apart they start so I guess that also means they're fighting in space yeah that makes sense I'm gonna say that mogo is a relatively peaceful planet

48:50
Like he's sort of the therapist for the Green Lantern Corps. So I don't actually think he'd go first. Ego just seems to be, you know, a little bit more human than Mogo. OK, so Ego is going to start the match. He's going to psionically scan Mogo and get a like a mental dossier of sorts on Mogo's power levels and the Green Lantern ring blocked. Psychically blocked. What? Yeah, Mogo psychic, too. He wouldn't allow it. And while Ego's thinking like, what, like, why can't I read this planet?

49:19
That's when Mogo is just gonna blast him with like this giant green laser, just Death Star style. Death Star? Uh, okay, well, they're like five million miles apart. I'm trying to think. Obviously, Ego is going to see this Death Star beam coming at him. Let me do the math on this real quick. So, okay, apparently it takes light three minutes to travel between Earth and Mars, and they're like a sixth of that distance. So we divide three minutes by six.

49:48
So it's about like 30 seconds. It'll take 30 seconds for this Death Star laser beam to reach Ego. So Ego like has plenty of time to counter and Ego shoots out his own cosmic energy beams from his eyes and the two lasers clash into each other in this bright burst. But with the energies stalemated like that, Ego's gonna take that moment to try to flank Mogo, like move through space and he gets within about like...

50:17
the distance between the Earth and the Moon. So by closing that distance, it's only gonna take a laser beam about a second to reach each other. So this is all really loose math. Nobody like double-checked this. Seriously, like dude, what the fuck is this? Is this a speculation or is this fucking math class? All you need to know is that they're about the distance between the Earth and the Moon from each other and light only takes about a second to travel that distance. Okay.

50:45
All right, so the two planets are relatively close to each other. Yeah. And Mogo is going to create like two massive arm constructs that come off his body that look like tree branches made from green energy. OK. And these arms are going to reach out and just start slapping Ego right in his ugly face real hard. Well, Ego is going to generate these two long purple tendrils from the sides that block Mogo's arms. And so like these planets are kind of like grappling.

51:15
But Ego's gonna generate this like massive lightning storm that's gonna surge electricity through his tendrils that travel into MoGo and blast his arms away. Okay, but I mean, MoGo is a big guy, so he'll recover quickly from that electric shock essentially. And when he does, he's gonna create a massive green asteroid that just slams into Ego's side, just leaving this enormous crater. Ego's like,

51:45
Uh, and then he's going to generate seismic activity and he's going to launch a bunch of rocks from his surface. These rocks are huge, like they're the size of entire countries and they're going to just pelt all across mogo like a bunch of meteors. How about that? Okay, well mogo is just going to block those meteors with this massive green energy wall between them that's going to act as a shield and the meteors are just going to crash into that. Okay. Well, at that point.

52:14
Ego's gonna increase his magnetic field, okay, which is gonna magnetically pull Mogo toward him and send Mogo like crashing through his own wall construct, you know, and with that shield down, the two plants are gonna be pretty close by this point, like on a collision course because of the magnetic pull and gravity, but uh, Ego's gonna form his mouth into like a giant volcano.

52:42
and he's going to spit like a whole oceans worth of lava at Mogo and just burn up the guy's forests and turn a whole section of him into ash. Damn! Okay, you know, Mogo is probably going to start shifting oceans to the burning area to quell the fires, so it's probably going to be too distracted to stop the collision. So that's what's going to happen. The planets are going to crash into each other and Ego's just going to get decimated because he's only half the size that Mogo is.

53:12
Yeah, but Ego bites. He has teeth. He's a biter. And it doesn't matter how small you are. Like a strong bite, even from like a little kid, is still gonna really hurt. So he crashes into Mogo, but he bites a huge chunk out of him. What is he, fucking Mike Tyson? Yes. Jeez. Okay. But I'm gonna say that like, now that Ego has some of Mogo inside his planetary surface, Mogo is going to...

53:40
form that matter into like rock monsters that start invading Ego's insides, working their way to his core to destroy his brain, which they pinpoint. They don't know that how do they know his brain's there. Mogo is able to pinpoint it because he's psychic and he could, you know, find out where that mental energy is coming from. So these rock monsters just move towards it. But the rock monsters also have green energy armor. I forgot to mention that they're all suited up. That's what Ego...

54:08
is just gonna create these like massive tornadoes all over his surface that scoop up these rock monsters and then just like eject them into space. But, speaking of like little minion guys, Mogu's also now covered in Ego's anti-body creatures. And those guys are just gonna start slowly tearing Mogu apart like a deadly virus. Okay, but I mean it's gonna take a lot longer because Mogu's a lot bigger. And like not all of Mogu's monsters are gonna get sucked out of Ego's...

54:37
insides because you know they have like green energy construct tools that let them drill deep into Ego so you know they're gonna reach his brain and then once they do they're just gonna blast it apart with green lasers and now Ego's dead except Ego could shift his core's location where his brain is so like these raw creatures aren't gonna find shit like okay before they even can Ego's antibodies just swarm across mogo they find his green lantern ring wherever the hell he keeps it

55:07
They remove it and mogo's just powerless and defeated. No, I mean he's not powerless without his ring. Mogo can still control its rock monsters. So it's fine and Ego's brain is still destroyed once it's found. But if he doesn't have a ring, how the hell is mogo gonna stop Ego from frying him like the sun when Ego emits a bunch of intense heat radiation? Dude, Ego's already dead. That's not gonna happen. His brain has just been...

55:36
destroyed before that could even happen. You know how small that ring is? How is that monster is gonna drill through Ego if they no longer have their Green Lantern armor? I'm saying finding Mogo's Green Lantern ring is gonna be literally like trying to find a single ring on an entire fucking planet. There's no metaphor there. Exactly. It's literally that. I don't know if he keeps that ring underground or like on a random tree branch. No one knows where that thing is. Ego finds it.

56:06
Let me tell you. And I say he doesn't and dies. Let's go ahead and leave the match there. Either Ego locates Mogu's ring, removes it, and then fries him to a crisp with heat radiation. Or Mogu doesn't get his ring found and uses his rock monsters to locate Ego's brain and destroy it. So basically both of them are trying to find something and we're saying that's not gonna happen. Right.

56:32
We'll find out which of these scenarios happens by running the character's statistics in 1000 Monte Carlo simulations and coming back with the winner. AG9000, hit it! Inputting data. Running calculations. Processing results. Simulations complete. How did that go? We knew that was going to be hard. I didn't know how much math I was going to be doing on the fly. Yeah, I'm not sure how necessary that was. These are comic characters after all.

56:58
But it was fun, we had mentioned earlier that Mogo was a ripoff of the character Ego, and I would say that the stats reflected that, they were very similar. Yeah, in terms of speed, durability, damage, range, they were even. And even with fighting, because neither of them really fight. Yeah, not hand to hand combat style-wise. We did say that Mogo was stronger than Ego, we had no real way to quantify that, we just assumed that because Mogo is twice the size of Ego.

57:26
and he has the green lantern ring. We also said that Mogo was more evasive than Ego considering he could create force field constructs and more defensive constructs in general. The biggest discrepancy between the two characters though was actually intellect. We said that Ego was considerably more intelligent than Mogo. Yeah, Ego is one of the elders of the universe and considered to be exceptionally intelligent.

57:51
Even though he does get a little bit emotional, he is prone to bouts of madness and things like that. I did knock him down a bit for that, but he was still smarter than Mogo, who seems to be about as intelligent as, you know, your standard human. Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't go that far. Mogo is ancient, but he really didn't have any feats that showed a considerable intellect, at least nothing compared to ego.

58:15
Jonathan got really pissed when he found out that Mogo and Ego had around the same versatility stat. Yeah, that's bullshit because Green Lanterns are insanely versatile. Yeah, but I made the argument that Ego has much greater control of his planetary mass, you know, down to the molecular level. He can create constructs like fists and tendrils and you know, like transform the surface of the planet to pure lava, things like that. Whereas Mogo doesn't quite have that same level of control.

58:44
He has quite a bit of control, like he could even pinpoint his gravity down to like indivi duels within a group. But he hasn't been shown to terraform quite to the level that Ego has. Ego has a freaking face on the side of his planet. You know, Mogo doesn't. He has a band of trees in the shape of a green lantern logo, but that is really mostly unchanging. All in all, it was kind of a beast to put in all these stats. But AJ has the results. Before we read them.

59:13
Joseph, who do you think came out on top? I think it's gonna be Ego. He's the small underdog guy, but he's super powerful. And Mogo's just kind of lame. He's just a lame lame-o. Our Instagram followers disagree with me with 59% of them voting for Mogo as the winner. But it's okay for them to be wrong. They could be wrong. It's okay to be wrong sometimes, Instagram followers. All right, well, let's see who won. AJ9K, the results please. Hey, Yuasa. The winner of the matchup.

59:43
between the Green Lantern, Mogo and Ego, the living planet is Mogo. What? But come on, barely. He won 51.2% of the 1000 matches or 512 matches. Ego won 488. It's a coin toss. And honestly.

01:00:05
One that I was surprised by. I didn't think Mogo was going to come out on top considering that the biggest discrepancy, like we mentioned, was intelligence and Ego came out on top in that. But I'll accept the win no matter what. This is awesome. Ego can I don't accept this win. I don't accept it. Well, too bad. You can't do it. Just redo the whole thing. I mean, I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Ego is a tiny little guy compared to Mogo. There's no way that size is not that small. It is, though.

01:00:33
Like he wouldn't be sustainable as a moon, you know, they'd crash into each other. He's big enough to do some damage. Sure. But like the little guy will get way more destroyed than the big guy. You know, the ego can grow in size by, you know, consuming other celestial bodies. Well, yeah. Well, where are they in the simulation? They're nowhere. There's nothing in space around them. All right. All right. Whatever. I'll get you next time. Piece of shit. Jeez. Yeah, because that does it for this duel. Let us know what you thought about the results by writing to us.

Yeah, Mantis being the character from The Guardians of the Galaxy movies and Monkey Prince being the guy from that one movie with Jet Li and Jackie Chan.

01:02:02
Yeah, the Monkey King obviously is a character in Chinese folklore. Monkey Prince is his son. A relatively new comic character for DC. Both he and Mantis are crazy versatile, so it's gonna be interesting to see how that match plays out. But that does it for this episode. We want to give a big thanks to our executive producers Ken Johnson, John Storosky, Zachary Hepburn, Dustin Belcombe, Mickey Mantengian, Brandon Estergard, Nathaniel Wagner.
